Five franchises That would make Great MMO

Orcs, elves, goblins, gnomes and dwarves, we are tired of them? Success seems eternal World of Warcraft would say no, but let's take a look at some other massive franchise that could easily make the leap from the movie, book, or the feeling of a single player, to instant classic MMO.

Transformers: With over thirty years of history and two movies (Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen) to its name in the last five years gross of nearly two billion dollars in worldwide box office, no detours, robots in disguise are big again, really massive.

Who would have thought a period of thirty minutes of ads disguised as toys kids cartoon from 1985 provide the basis for an excess of several million dollars? Men in suits, that's who.

How could it work? The temptation is to go with only two classes, Autobots and Decepticons, but why not introduce a third playable class, the humans? They have always played a key role in transformers history of the Directors of the Witwicky (both Transformers: The Movie and the new renaissance of action in vivo).

The game would take place across multiple real-world major cities and even expand on other planets and places in fiction indicated in the myth Transformers, places like Cybertron, unwanted and Autobot City.

Like any Transformers fan will tell you, this should definitely MMO based on Dreamwave's Generation One comic book series.

The chances of this happening: Even though the franchise is huge at the time, this is a long shot. Activision Blizzard are the current video gaming license holders and seems happy to give you a non-MMO with the release of each entry in the franchise film, but does not seem to hot on the idea of getting a full blown MMO project in production in any of their studies. You have to think about the possibilities of getting a Transformers MMO they are actually quite rare, at least until the films have continued.

Call of Duty: Ironically, the subtitle of the latest call of Duty game, World at War would have been a great title for a massively multiplayer entry in the series, which even had a zombie horde mode of attack that would have been perfect for one of the Halloween events developers of the new MMO to launch to attract new subscribers in the times.

How could it work? It is not difficult imagine that players can choose different "races" of the U.S. Special Forces the British SAS and all other. You can also choose what kind of soldier who would like to be, a tank-like demolitions expert equipped with the RPG, C-4 and a shoulder strap equipped with grenades, a stealthy Navy SEALs, or perhaps a class field medical support? Your choice.

The chances of this happening: You can bet Activision Blizzard already recording is out. Call of Duty is the biggest video game franchise in the moment, financial expert and CEO of Activision, Bobby Kotick, we probably not let this go without milk the cash cow for much longer.

The question is, have the stones to make Activision to pay to play in a climate increasingly toward the edge free to play model? Oh, and we went to the venerable World War II path or the path cooler Modern Warfare?

Harry Potter: It is amazing that we have not seen this yet. The Transformers movie may have accumulated nearly two billion dollars in ticket sales around the world, but Harry and his Hogwarts pals are on another level altogether.

The Potter books have sold nearly half a billion copies, the films have generated more than a staggering five billion dollars in worldwide box office. One could argue that the series of books and movies wrapped you reach your own conclusion in the next two or three years, Pottermania is no longer in its prime, but he remains one of the most entertainment licenses lucrative around.

How could it work? First things first, the films are great, but let's base this more on the books right? After all, you have an absolute wealth of material there, why let it go to waste? EA also is blessed with a abundance of studies at home with the necessary experience and pedigree to do good in a Potter MMO. Studies such as Mythic and Bioware have the necessary experience, and Potter fans know the material was in good hands.

Obviously, the game center around Hogwarts and its surrounding woods, the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade, etc, but do not forget that there are other schools of magic in the Potterverse as Durmstrang and Beauxbatons.

Needless to say, if you enroll in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry you can choose which you belong to the House (or maybe the AI controlled Sorting Hat to do that!)

You are also encouraged to participate in several classes, such as Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, Diviniation and more on the way to eventually become an Auror.

The chances of make this happen: Let's face it, Harry Potter games for EA, including the last, half blood prince, who had nearly seven months of development time tacks at the end due to the delay of the film, have never been particularly good. They are not bad, just not very good. Games EA Potter film have always been a game prototype based license … adequate enough to get the fans excited, but not enough to really make most of the source material.

It is impossible to know how EA no longer holds the license for the Potter universe, but if it extends beyond the release the last film in the series (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II), then it becomes increasingly likely that an MMO based on the books Harry Potter will become.

The Elder Scrolls: Many have called long list of games Bethesda, especially the last two, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion ", single player MMO.

The Maryland-based studio spares no expense when it regards the level of detail that is dedicated to the creation of these scenarios in constant expansion, including the various places of living for most of the characters appearing in the game, no voice totally playable characters, each knives, forks, pots, pans, etc.

How it works Was an easy way to say "almost exactly like single player games? Because the truth is that most fans want this kind of travel experience an Elder Scrolls MMO. They want the players fully expressed, they want the insanity level of detail, complex missions, funny and sometimes dark, who wants it all.

The world already established, initially after the election of their race, Breton, Redguard, Imperial, Orc, etc all you need do is choose the kind of a series of family archetypes; acrobat barbarous murderer, bard, healer etc., Mage and presto, is to pass the time.

The chances of to happen: a forum for heated debate aside, we know that Bethesda is at least taking into account the possibility of forgetting thematic MMO, and a topic on Fallout MMO. The question is, have the resources to undertake such an ambitious project, and run the risk of ruining the franchise Play should not be all that can be?

Grand Theft Auto: The elephant in the room is not it? Some might say that with the imminent release of the ABS next Scottish developer Realtime Worlds, which does not need a massively multiplayer Grand Theft Auto. They are wrong.

While APB seems interesting and fun, that seems to have the soul and the heart beating a wickedly smart game Grand Theft Auto. Like Saints Row (at least for now) seems to be only a pretender to the throne.

What makes GTA games great is his attention to detail, presenters Random talk programs, great music and memorable characters, things that APB does not appear to have yet.

How could work: Imagine a Grand Theft Auto game new and fresh where radio, television, internet and mobile content and dialogue are introduced on a weekly basis.

Imagine several cities like Liberty City, Vice City and equivalent Rockstar North London and Tokyo international airport connected by animated. Imagine everyone prepared in Rockstar legendary attention to detail, spiced with a touch of wit and satire is famous as Rockstar on Grand Theft Auto IV.

Now imagine that the world comes crumbling under the force of pure destruction of you and two hundred thousand of his closest friends and colleagues.

As in the APB you'd be able to pick up law enforcement and crime, and as in GTA: Vice City Stories you would be responsible of building a small empire of play your claim to the regions of territory within their chosen hometown. The police, of course, have something to say about their less than legal attempts to expand his empire. Cue tanks, helicopters and helicopters, ships, buildings and explosions.

Chance of happening: For a long time last year the rumor was that Rockstar was going to buy ABS worlds in real time and a great blow big, ugly, GTA sticker on it. Fortunately this was not the case, can not help feeling Rockstar are better than that.

Some might argue that the franchise lost its luster with the launch of GTA: IV, but the game has sold an estimated thirteen million copies, so what do they know?

You have to think of anyone who has Rockstar HQ at least, raised the idea of a GTA MMO, and its provisional measures in flirting with the multiplayer online in recent games shows they are at least taking into account that a line could mean for GTA series.

Will could happen if? My guess is the time, especially if APB takes off and proves to be a massive success. The problem then is, GTA: online then be seen as a loser?

Honorable Mention:

Half Life: Initially, the mention of Half Life as a franchise that could be spun into an MMO might look a bit strange … until it is considered the living, breathing, post-apocalyptic environment of northern Europe Town 17 as a starting point.

Monster Hunter: This is almost a laptop and MMO, Monster Hunter III, the Wii, too may have a monthly fee in Japan! Let's take the next step and make persistent right?

Animal Crossing: Nintendo seems content to joke, and taking into account the dubious online capabilities of the Wii, we are willing to wait in this case.

Bioshock: Stroll by the labyrinthine corridors of Rapture at its height and the look of astonishment on the sights, sounds and wonders of a civilization careening headlong into its inevitable decline, Where do I sign up?

Halo: Microsoft leasr tried and failed once to get this off the ground, we would like try again please, and try harder this time!
